Finding / Joining Channels
When Incorrigo Syx Script is connected, all the options [when you right-click on the status window / Incorrigo Syx on the menu bar] become available and suit your situation - whether it's unregistered / TLS secure / using SASL to authenticate with nickserv during connection process - and onesuch option out of these is the option to join a channel
Unless you've disabled it for any reason, the favourite channels list will appear on your screen. You can choose to join any amount of channels from this menu, or you can dismiss it altogether. It's quite useful if you have a number of channels you want to join at the same time (all users can join more than 1 channel, that's why we have the tree view / the switch bar [which we will come to later]
When you click "Join Channel" You type #channelname (channels must begin with #) the script will try to join the channel. If you type another word
after #channelname, it will be used as a channel password
but it's hardly ever likely since channel operators can use invite only
or the channel's /ACCESS list
Channel Menu Join
New user selecting the option to join another channel
Options are available from the channel menu:
Return to This Channel
– The channel window will stay open if you leave / have been kickedJoin Another Channel
– Prompting to join another channel and, specify an optional password if you know itInvite Someone Here
– Send an invitation [this can override certain channel restrictions] to another userFind Other Channels
- You can list all* channels, using a particular keyword, narrowing down to results more relevant to your wishes
Server Messages Menus
This is the status menu which provides account and login handling functions ... including "identify with nickserv" which is paramount if you connect and you're using a registered nicknameFavourite Channel Selection
Once you're connected you can manage your favourite channels using the favourite channel manager. If you select an entire folder and click "Join" - mIRC will try to join every channel on said list. On the icon menu bar you can click on the image above that's highlighted to bring up / set your favourite channels at any time
If you select the folder, more than one folder, multiple channels - you will be able to quickly join them all at once. If you are a new user though, then it might be difficult to join a high amount of channels all at the same time. One of our rules is to not join all channels indiscriminately, it is detectable spamming behaviour; so the server might try and stop you but only if you're a new user and the network hasn't seen enough of you yet ... which will pass
Most people are legitimate and well meaning users, so don't worry about trying not to join too many channels too fast. The vast majority of users will not even encounter flood control, so it's not as rigorous as that last paragraph just made it sound. Controls are eased off gradually so the more you establish yourself, the more privileges you get
Use the /join Command
You can still join manually using:
/join #channel /join #channelname [0ptional Password]
The Channel List
You can list channels any time you like with /LIST [keyword]
... you can only use one keyword but it will trim your results down to whatever you might be looking for
An example of the channel list, with from right to left: channel name
, members
, channel modes
(settings), channel topic
In mIRC, the results are displayed in a new window specifically for list results. If you don't use a keyword, then you will get a list of as many channels that are on the server as whatever limit that might be in place ... except, of course, the channels which are set to secret, or private those channels will only show if you're an IRC operator / if you are currently on such channels yourself
The Channel Itself
Here is what you see - through the eyes of the script - when you join one
This is the breakdown of the channel window when you join one. Obviously our script makes some observations once you have joined, that are translated into plain english for you where possible. To identify the different sections, in case you're a new user, the parts of the channel window have been numbered to help guide you ...
1
- The tree bar. This shows multiple server connections including the one you're currently looking at; along with all the channels and all the private conversations you are currently in. Each section can be expanded or collapsed as necessary2
- Channel user list. An ordered list of channel members grouped by their specific channel modes. Right-click on a channel member's nickname and you will see different interactions depending on your role vs. theirs / in the channel3
- The channel itself. Right-click anywhere in this window and you will see the commands you are currently permitted to use. It would be pointless to give you a list of so many features / functions that will not work, so the list expands depending on the privileges that you currently have (including "Network Engineer" (IRC operator))4
- The switchbar. This comes from an older version of mIRC that existed before there were multiple connections supported / tree bar hadn't been created yet. In the same way as the tree bar, channel / query windows are highlighted (the text changes colour) depending on actions / unread messages that are in the channels you're on5
- Editbox ... the double role of this is that you can send messages (then press return to send), and you can even issue /commands manually
