Using nickserv
nickserv
is the IRC service that helps you protect your identity by allowing you to register your nickname, secure it with a password, and manage related account settings.
Why Register?
- Protect your nickname from being used by others
- Access to registered-only channels
- Registered users have the least restrictions on their session
- Persistent identity across sessions
- Enable other services like
chanserv
andhostserv
Basic Commands
/register <password> <email>
– Register your nickname/id <password>
– Log into your nickname/recover <nickname> <password>
– Regain control of your nickname/nickserv identify <nickname> <password>
- Login to a nickname you are not currently using/nickserv set password <newpass>
– Change your password/nickserv cert add
– Associate a TLS certificate with your account/nickserv help
– View all available commands and descriptions
Helpful Tips
- Choose a secure, unique password that only you will remember
- Your password is not recoverable, but it can be reset via your registered email
- We will never ask you for your password. We don't even store your password at all
- Use
/query nickserv help
to interact with the service manually at any time - If your nickname gets stuck after a disconnect, use
/recover
.
When you're registered and logged in, other services on the network will recognise you — and your nickname becomes fully yours.
